Clarification: if it's a volunteer or public search, rather than an official LE search, LE cannot demand that family members refrain from searching if they are not suspects, according to what I've read following other cases. I've read that LE usually advises against it for all of the reasons you posted above. I thought the Breeann searches in the field were conducted by public volunteers and there was some LE searching along side. I might have misunderstood...
