I don't think race (in and of itself) makes an individual more prone to committing criminal acts. I do believe where you live, your culture and upbringing make you more likely to engage in crime.
It would be interesting to see what the statistics are for black kids (or other minorities) that are adopted out to stable homes at a young age. Stick a minority baby in some middle to upper middle class family and I would think that the statistics would even out. Similarly, it would be interesting to look at crime rates among the different races with filters for income levels.
I think you make a valid point username. I'd like to see those statistics/studies as well.
Anybody who spends some time on Lady Cop's Cell Block will get a view at just how criminally-inclined impoverished white, black, Hispanic and mixed-race folks can be across the nation. In my opinion, we don't see white crime covered as much in the media unless it involves a murder or it's related to a bigger crime (missing child/spouse or major white collar crime).
Here are just two examples:
Haleigh Cummings: adorable little 5 year old with breathing problems. Born into white trash poverty - living in a trailer home in Satsuma, Florida. Dad's a statuatory rapist and drug dealer; he has custody. Mom's a moron who lost custody of her kids because dad's considered more fit for having a vehicle and holding down a job (not including the drug dealing). The baby sitter and dad's current live-in lover is a 17 year old and 6th grade drop out from a family of druggies and sex offenders. Kid goes missing. 3 years later, no resolution as to the missing person's case, but 7WHITE family members have been imprisoned for felony drug crimes: dad, babysitter (then wife, then ex-wife), babysitter's brother, dad's cousin, babysitter's mom, babysitter's dad, babysitters friend (and search party volunteer).
Hailey Cummings
Hailey Dunn: 13 year old cheerleader from impoverished Colorado City, Texas. Mom's a hospital receptionist and wanna-be teenager with a much younger boyfriend who's all over youtube, getting high as a kite and making amateur horror films with his cousin Egor. Dad (who lives across the field from mom and kids with his new GF) has a record for possessing marijuana and a felony conviction with jail time served for robbery. Dad's GF has a record for false identity. Mom's mom (grandma) is a straight up meth-head busted for possession during the course of the investigation. Mom's youngest brother is busted for possession and warrants twice during the course of the investigation. Dad is busted 2 times during the course of the investigation for failure to appear on warrants. Mom is busted for lying to police by trying to hide the suspect in her daughter's disappearance, possession of a dangerous drug, and hindering apprehension of the suspect.

I don't have the answers to the question posed in this thread, but I'd like to understand the problem better. That means looking at it from all angles. It's not exclusively (and possibly not even predominantly?) a black problem. People who think there are not a lot of strung out, fucked up, child neglecting, drug-dealing, hooking and pimping criminals from the impoverished Caucasian and Hispanic communities may be disillusioned after perusing LC's Cell Block. Or maybe not.
