Tacoma, Wash. • A judge here has ruled the children of missing Utah mother Susan Cox Powell will remain in state custody for now, saying it is not safe for them to continue living with their father, Josh Powell.
Pierce County Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson made the ruling just after 3 p.m. MST.
The state’s Child Protective Services (CPS) temporarily placed the boys, ages 6 and 4, with Susan Powell’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, on Tuesday. Wednesday’s ruling means they will remain in their grandparents’ Puyallup home.
An attorney representing CPS, John Long, told Nelson Wednesday there are many good reasons that warrant keeping the children in state custody instead of with their father, Josh Powell.
