NEW HAVEN —The penalty phase in the trial of Joshua Komisarjevsky, convicted in the murders of a Cheshire mother and her two daughters, got underway in Superior Court this morning.
Komisarjevsky, 31, of Cheshire, was convicted earlier this month on all 17 counts — including six capital felonies — in the home-invasion slayings of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley and Michaela.
The same jury that convicted him will decide whether he should be put to death or sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
