The past usually has a lot to do with things like this. How could the post-slavery era not be immensely connected to having slave parents and then treated horribly after that? You are kidding yourself if you think your upbringing doesn't have a lot to do with your present.
Let me ask you something. I am not surprised about the state of Blacks this last century, or these last handful of decades since they finally achieved legal civil rights. Are you surprised? Are you seriously surprised by the entrenched difficulties they are having? Why or why not?
