The driver could have dropped a dime on her at any time. But he didn't.
I feel badly for a bunch of kids. Their parents won't pay the rent so they have to move, parents sleep with anybody they can lure to their hovels whether the kids are home or not so kids don't feel safe in their own beds, parents are drunk/high/not emotionally present so the kids have to create their own love. I could go on and on. I guess because I worked with kids for so long, I had to stop investing in their tragedies (most people have some bad shit to deal with) and start helping them realize they can remove any obstacle. Having an excuse is the worst trap facing humanity.
Cracker isn't part of the problem. Empathy yes, sympathy no. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, try again.
