A gunman fired 10 rounds inside Chardon High School, on Feb. 27, 2012, killing three boys and shooting two other students. As the chaos ensued, 9-1-1 calls came in to the Chardon Police Department.
These calls begin with distraught witnesses inside the school, followed by school officials. As word began to spread, parents call in seeking information. Finally, people outside the school offer reports of possible sightings.

- "We just had a shooting at our school." Apparently the first call. A distraught witness describes what happened. (The tape has been edited to remove the caller's identifying information.)
- Two quick calls from inside the school.
- "We need police up here."
- "We are in lockdown." Long call as someone inside the school is asked to leave the line open. Includes descriptions of events.
- Chardon principal reports that the suspected shooter has run out of the school.
- Call from inside the teachers lounge. --you can hear the kids talking to eachother, one says "i wanna go home", gave me goosebumps.
- Student calls from inside a lunch line (with doors on either side).
- Parent calls asking for information.
- Parent asks what she should do.
- Parent of middle school student is told the incident was at the high school.
- Someone at Maple Elementary's parking lot describes a man in a gray sweatshirt talking to someone there.
- Someone reports a boy in a gray sweatshirt sitting on the side of the road.
