I hope no one attempts to make the case that we should hold the US government responsible for the fact that this soldier was guilty of defrauding the elderly in 2000, according to financial regulators. I guess some could say that fraud, theft and exploitation of the elderly was justified because of a bad economy brought on by the government, but I wouldn't buy that argument either and would also hold Bales responsible for this unrelated fraud crime. And, wait, the economy was fine in 2000. Who to blame? Might we have to consider this man responsible for his own actions? Maybe since he wasn't wearing a uniform when he committed fraud on his own accord, we can go ahead and hold him accountable for that one?
