what a sad thing. i remember as a kid hearing this song about the mystical white buffalo.

A rare white buffalo calf that became the center of a Native American cult has died mysteriously just days before its first birthday.
Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of the buffalo, named Lightning Medicine Cloud, on Lakota Ranch, north Texas.
Ranch owner Arby Little Soldier says he found the animal dead and skinned on Monday. The buffalo's mother was found dead the following day, he said.
According to Lakota Sioux lore, the goddess of peace once appeared in the form of a white buffalo calf.
