Where do you get off calling people here liars and bigots for saying that they don't want a mosque in their area.
There are legitimate concerns. Legitimate cultural concerns and if the truth be known, concerns around the religion itself and the violence it advocates against women. There are many of issues surrounding these islamic organisations that cannot be passively ignored.
In fact, it could be argued that this level of 'tolerance' gave them the ammunition to train themselves to fly planes in the US. Get visa's and carry out their violent objectives.
Don't be naive about what you are dealing with. These people are not operating on the same principles that we live by. If you are passive and let things get out of control in the name of 'political correctness' you will have huge problems on your hands.
There ultimate goal is to take over the world, and many of them are pushing for an islamic world. I personally, do not wish to live under Sharia law. But that's me, I'm old fashioned like that.
Hey aussie, you might be missing the bigger picture in terms of ultimate freedom for women. Yes, Sharian Law looks repressive as hell, BUT consider these advantages enjoyed by the women subjected to it:
- Since they can only show their faces and hands in public, one could pack on the pounds and need only worry about facial injections. And, Nair, pffft. Why worry?
-If they are forced to undergo a clitoridectomy, they won't be distracted by basic human needs for pleasure. That gives women more time to focus on making life pleasant for their masters. That's where the satisfaction in life lies.
-Well, there's an endless list of advantages, to be sure, but I'll stop there.
But seriously, not all Muslims are terrorists, by a long shot. And, not all Muslims are nutfuck fundamentalists. If they are US citizens and get legal approval, let them build their mosque and worship - freedom of religion is an important guarantee in the US Constitution.
Having said that, I'm convinced that the US govt will be all over it. The US Patriot Act and similar legislation passed after 911 gives the government a fuckload of leeway in responding to private and personal activity which they believe may be a threat to the US. It's invasive and intrusive to US citizens in some ways, imo, but it also allows for monitoring and surveilling organized environments/groups with a much broader reach and fewer boundaries than pre-911.
P.s. I'd feel much more confident about this if Hasan had been ferreted out before he shot and killed 12 people, but...
