There are still some drive-ins in California too, but few and far between. Drive-ins were a big part of my childhood and teenage years. I love 'em.
I took my niece to her only drive-in when I first moved up to Northern California. The Burlingame Drive-In was still open and she was about 10. It was old school; not refurbed state-of-the-art like in San Jose. I loved it. She hated it. There were only like 5 other cars there and she thought it was creepy watching a movie outside in the dark. She was also not happy walking in the gravel to get stale popcorn and use the dirty bathrooms. Had to take her to see the same movie at a "real theater with seats" the next day as penance. Yeah, she owned me, still does.
