Nice. I have a pretty nice collection of old books, some firsts, but more just stuff that really tweaked me. My favorite is this old school primer from the turn of the last century, a current events book from 190-something that cladking would probably get a kick out of with his "good old days" rants. It does the usual bits of history to that point, with the entire last few chapters of the book devoted to the presidential assassination that the authors felt was the most horrific crime the country had faced to date, an act of cowardice that would live in infamy and be remembered as the turning point for the loss of innocence in our country.
I refer of course to the murder of William McKinley at the Pan-Am expo in Buffalo NY. The schoolbook authors, in that time pre-WW1, thought for sure McKinley's assassination would be the big news for the next few decades. Funny how time changes perspective, innit? Nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find anybody who even remembers we HAD a president McKinley, let alone that he got capped by some polack anarchist.
