I know some people try to keep abreast of what other people know, but most Americans still have the same idea of matter they had in high school (proton, neutron, electron) and still think gravity is caused by big things, not generated by a particle. Quantum physics has been around since the early 1900's, plenty of time to learn a bit more about it. Most people don't. It doesn't make them money.
The video of Stephen Hawking paying out 100 dollars when he lost the bet on this yesterday is pretty funny.
