Ma makes me laugh, and I hope I have made Ma giggle. That is not asskissing, it's an old concept called 'friendship'. He has contributed here, he got caught in that whole toxic subject, I think unwittingly.

Am I saying don't ever give people the benefit of the doubt? No, but really look at every possible angle of a story/scenario. After doing that, then draw your conclusions.
