EVANSDALE, Iowa - Law enforcement authorities turned the week-old mystery into two missing little girls into a criminal matter.
Black Hawk County Sheriff's Captain Rick Abben announced Friday afternoon that they are considering the disappearance of Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, and Elizabeth Collins, 8, as an abduction.
He said the case changed after professional divers did not find the girls in the bottom of Meyers Lake in Evansdale, which has been the focus of their search for the past week.
Once investigators were confident the girls were not in the lake, Abben said they could now call the case an abduction. They also no longer believe the girls are simply lost because they would have been found.
