We live in a world where anything is possible. However, some things are more probable than others.
What are the chances that a man is going to take a plea deal that may put him in jail for 10 years (or longer), decides on 12 July to not take the deal since he'd be taken into custody immediately, and his [bio] daughter (along with her cousin] gets abducted the next day? If Dan and Misty had nothing to do with this, not even the barest hint of knowledge, I'd say this is on the order of winning a multi-million dollar lottery.
LE can say that Dan and Misty are not suspects, but in the immortal words of Mocks' own Duchess, "Cops are allowed to lie."
