I love animals, but they're animals. Placing unwarranted affection in animal relationships at the expense of human ones is simply the reverse side of the "perfect boyfriend" psychosis that leads so many women to love Jesus. Anybody who has the urge to remind me that animals love unconditionally needs to go read the pitbull thread or simply stop feeding your own animal for a couple weeks and see how that works out for you.

Maybe it's not so much that I love animals as much as I abhor cruel people.

I'm with you. Worst beating I ever gave another person was after catching him slinging cats over a tree branch as a teenager.. Hard to get what those cats looked like outta my head.

But I balk at saying my pets are my children or talking to them over the phone.
