Ok, it was in the 90s. I had this part time job in the evening and there was this mature aged woman working there who was in charge (I am still friends with her). I got on really well with her. She knew that I was getting over a horrible break up as I told her all about it.
Unfortunately, her being old fashioned she thought that all I needed was another man! She told the computer geek guy who worked out the back about me and before I knew it he asked me out on a date. It was one of those 'nowhere to run, nowhere to hide' type of situations. I didn't see it coming, I had no back up. He just pounced on me. I think his skin was oily from memory. Anyway, whilst he was over the moon that I said yes, I was in total panic mode.
So, we agreed to go the comedy club to see a comedian here called 'Bob Downe'. I was a huge fan and thought he was hilarious. I got a migraine throughout the show and didn't think it was funny. I think it was the stress of the situation that I was not coping with at all.
I had also invited one of my good friends on this 'date' in order to protect me. However, she did not. She left me out there floundering, laughing as this guy tried to get closer and closer. At one stage, his hand was right near mine, I had not seen it but my friend did. She was laughing her head off, and I looked down and nearly screamed as his hand looked like a huge spider. It was so horrific. It was obvious what the next step was going to be. Thank God I saw it in time.
My friend had a great night she laughed all night. I did not. He asked me out again. I had to tell him that I was not wanting to get into another relationship blah blah. He really thought he was in. I think it was a terrible shock for him. He is now happily married, and I am still me.
