. . . . . . . . cause there's a "gas shortage" there around Calabasas, and the gas prices have skyrocketed to $6 /gal gas!! Granted, it's for premium, but regular gas is not far behind at $5.70 /gal. And when all the regular is gone first, regular user's are forced to use premium. 
Some gas stations (including Costco) closed rather then to charge those over the top prices.
