Why do vitamins taste so bad?

I can read just fine. First you said you literally can't get it down because they taste like cough syrup, then User asked if they were liquid vitamins and you said they were pills, but can manage to get them down. So which one is it? It doesn't matter anyway, either way it still boils down to you having a hard time swallowing it.
