I say "no", I don't think it's right for her to be fired for what she does on her own time unless it affects her work performance.
Mom says, "hell, yes!, that girl's an asshole and she should be fired".
I'm with your Mom on this one... she's an adult (30 years old), works for a non-profit, and she was on a work related or sponsored trip when this occurred. While she may just be being a self described "douchebag", she conducted herself unprofessionally and potentially made herself a liability for her employer. I can imagine fund raising might be more difficult than it need be because of something like this...
This would be an easy decision if I were her boss. I'd fire her, and the retarded co-worker who took the picture and didn't have enough sense to not.
Your OP link is broken for me, Jim.
I found a story on Huffington Post and it says that LIFE is a Cape Cod-based nonprofit that houses adults with learning disabilities. It's not clear whether Stone went to the cemetary during her own time while on a business trip, or if for some reason going to the cemetary was a work assignment.
In either event, it does change my opinion. Imo, there is more cause to fire her if the trip was paid for by LIFE. OTH, I've been to plenty of conventions on employers' dimes and I dont' think it's anybody's business what I did while not attending the convention itself. I was never stupid enough to take pictures (and don't do FB), but lots of idiots out there who need their jobs.
IDK, if she gets fired for being stupid, it won't bother me since it was at least on work-related time. If she isn't fired and this a wake up call, that won't bother me either.
