Imitation is the laziest form of flattery, sincere or otherwise. It's often necessary as a motivational tool, because no sane person would take up writing, singing, dancing, or any other creative occupation unless there was some other person they desperately wanted to sing/write/act/perform like. But the TRULY greats never want to be known as "the next fill-in-the-blank". They want to be the one being evoked by name.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.
