CCTV systems are important surveillance devices. For sometime now, there have been several debates over how many CCTV cameras are there in Britain. This debate has been conducted in local papers, on TV, Radio and even over the internet. However, it can be said that no definite number has been reached because different people have always come up with various reports.
In June 2008, former shadow Home secretary, David Davis revealed that there were 4.2 Million CCTV cameras in the UK. However, in March 2011, DCC Gerrard who is also the lead on CCTV matters for the Association of Chief Police Officers came up to challenge this by stating that there are only 1.85 million CCTV cameras in Britain and not 4.2 million.
So the answer to How many CCTV Cameras are there in Britain is a little hard to provide – as there is no government body to collect the information.
