My old mate Chris lived and worked in Australia for a year and he said the heavy use of aussie slang was still very common all over the country. He said in Darwin he had trouble understanding a fucking word anyone was saying.
And soap operas are a reflection of the the societies in which they are based. And in aussie soaps every other word is ripper you drongo!
Please don't try and suggest aussies are anywhere near sophisticated because we both know that's total bollocks.
