Jury Deliberations Underway
Though Hasan served as his own attorney, he didn't present much of a defense for himself.
In his opening statement, he admitted to the killings - he's called the war in Afghanistan illegal - and he's confessed that the killings were premeditated to prevent the deployment of US soldiers who would then be fighting against or killing Muslims.
Hasan declined to make a closing argument in his defense and the jury started deliberations yesterday.
I don't think his refusal to offer a defense other than pro-Islamic rhetoric is an appeals strategy. I think Hasan is a narcissist who wants to be hailed as hero by fundamentalists and die a martyr.
