I don't think it's a waste to keep trying if there's any chance of revival, but I can see where it's sometimes just an exercise in futility when the heart's been arrested beyond a certain length of time.

I don't think its a waste of time either IF there is a chance.
The problem comes in when people make that call based on ignorance or ideology and not science.
Its up to the guy with the balls to make the call though.
