Should creationism be taught in schools alongside evolution?

"Enlightenment" doesn't mean the utter rejection of a fundamental part of every culture since the dawn of man: the creation myth. Why shouldn't it play a part in our education? It is as much a part of our journey toward modern man as anything Homer or Shakespeare wrote, and those are staples in any high school. Trying to utterly reject something that helped build us as a species is akin to those rebels in Cambodia blowing up ancient statues, multiple empires trying to wipe out Judaism or USSR banning religion. Doesn't really work, makes a hell of a mess and in most cases destroys a lot of priceless history.

That's why I said I wouldn't mind it in high school, I have nothing against studying world religion where it can be taught without promoting religious conviction. I don't think that's possible in elementary school, however, which is why I wouldn't want it to be mandatory.
