I think if Paul Reubens had been just another actor/comedian and didn't have a children's show, he might have had some short term embarrassing press, like the couple of actors busted in Hollywood in the company of prostitutes, and that would have been the end of it.
But, the Playhouse gig spurred the gossip media to turn him into a pedo. Stupid.
(I liked him in "Blow" when he tried to make a comeback, but haven't seen him since.)
