I listened to the tape of Collins and posted it in the Asshole Celebrities thread yesterday. To me, Collins is way too casual and minimizing about his "disclosure".
Pedophiles don't turn their lives around, IMO. It's pretty well established that they continue offending.
The "therapist" was a marriage counselor, not a doctor, so no privilege applies.
I don't know anything about the wife, Faye Grant, other than she's grilling him in the therapists office and was reportedly taping him to get evidence of his crimes for police, per her attorney's advice. She may well have had other personal motives, IDK.
Anyway, she turned the tape over to police after the therapy session. There was already an on-going investigation of Collins by NYPD before the tape was leaked. There was also an investigation by LAPD that is being revisited now that they have potential victims' identities, and I believe there was another separate sexual abuse allegation as well.
I understand that the crimes that Collins confessed to happened decades ago and understand your points, user and Duchess. But, I care about adults molesting 10, 11, 12 year olds -- no matter when it happened. I don't think people should turn a blind eye when a grown man is known to have sexually abused kids -- a man who often works with kids still.
Not sure if Collins will be prosecuted or if more victims will emerge now that Collins has been publicly exposed, so to speak. But, it's sure possible. The taping appears legal because it was recorded for the purpose of obtaining evidence of a felony crime (an exception to the two-party consent for taping law in CA) and there is no statute of limitations on sexual abuse of a child in New York state (where I believe the known crimes took place). http://victimsofcrime.org/docs/DNA%20Res...f?sfvrsn=2
I don't have a lot of angst over admitted child molesters being outed and kept away from children, no matter how they're outed.
