i'm still thinking about funerals...even those who hate cops can't celebrate a young person being murdered by some scumbag. (i hope).
so i have been to many cop funerals. kids who died in the line of duty, just like soldiers. why are they so different? they pledged their lives to help others.
let me tell you about cop funerals for the slain...at the end the radio dispatcher calls out their number. when there is no answer, the dispatcher says # 00 "10-7" (out of service. makes me cry every time. )
we had one guy, age 21, just out of academy. he answered a FAKE 911 call on a rainy night, slammed into a tree with his cruiser. the EMTs got there and before he died he said "i am going to a better place". i watched his Mom kiss him in his coffin. my heart broke into a thousand pieces.
another one of our guys...went to serve a warrant on a child molester, shot in the heart with a deer rifle. he had 3 little children.
one time we had a funeral procession for a murdered cop. 5 miles of us in cruisers and bikes to jacksonville florida. i will never be able to thank all the people who stopped their cars at intersections, got out and saluted. i love those kind people.
