Apparently she'd surf nearly 100% of the time with just her friends, but that day there was an adult present, who was able to stop the blood flow from her wound long enough to get her to a hospital and save her life.

Any other day she would've died.

While we were there, she pulled up most mornings around 7:30 in her pick-up truck and paddled out (by herself). Typically there were other surfers out there but I doubt I'd be inclined to get back on a board after an incident like that. Probably wouldn't want to go in the water at all. *Salutes her with a fully intact arm*
