This couple wanted to have some fun.
They were on vacation in Bradenton, Florida. The couple (Elissa Alvarez, 20, and Jose Caballero, 40) claim that she was just bouncing on his lap; dancing and playing around. But, the grandmother who called police on them says they were having sex on the beach. A three-year-old was on the beach at the same time.
He has a previous conviction for cocaine trafficking and she has no criminal record. They reportedly refused plea deals, claiming they'd done nothing illegal and figuring they would get off (you know what I mean).
Well, the jury found them guilty of lewd and lascivious conduct in under 15 minutes yesterday. She'll probably do less than 6 months and prosecutors are looking to get 3 or more years behind bars for him because of his (completely unrelated) past felony conviction. They will both have to register as sex offenders.
I think it's too much; people sometimes get less harsh sentences for crimes against others like robbery, assault, etc... Seems more reasonable to give them something like 30 days, a fine, and a much harsher sentence if it happens again, in my opinion.
Bet they wish they'd opted for the mountain cabin vacation.
