This is so fucking sad and maddening.
A little girl in White Pine, Tennessee and her friend were outside playing on Saturday. A neighbor boy showed the girls his puppy through his bedroom window and then asked 8-year-old McKayla Dyer to show him her puppy. McKayla giggled and said 'no'.
^ McKayla then turned to say something to her friend. That's when the 11-year-old neighbor boy shot her to death through his bedroom window with his dad's shotgun.
The 11-year-old has been charged with first degree murder. He has not been named publicly and his court appearance today was closed because he's a minor.
I sure as hell hope that the 11-year-old's dad is charged with neglect and/or endangerment. The 11-year-old should never have had unsupervised access to a loaded gun, or an unlocked gun and ammo.
Because of another irresponsible gun-owning parent, another set of parents has lost their child forever.
RIP McKayla Dyer.

UPDATE:
11-year-old Benny Tiller was found guilty of murdering 8-year-old McKayla today.
He shot and killed his young neighbor after she, her sister, and her friend refused to go get McKayla's puppies when he demanded. He told McKayla he had guns and she laughed, figuring he was joking (according to her friend and sister).
Tiller had received training in gun safety and hunted with his father and grandfather. He was a good shot.
Tiller will be in the custody of the state until he's 19, probably in intensive treatment facilities.
I don't know if his parents, the people who gave him unsupervised access to guns, have been charged. I think they should be.
