After losing Trevathan and Malik Jackson? Those are young, talented guys... your front 7 is definitely weaker. I doubt you'll draft anyone at 32 that'll replace those caliber players in the short term. And yeah, over the next 2-3 years, you'll have a lot of guys who want to get paid when their contract comes up. Gets hard to retain talent. Look at Seattle's defense. (The Pats can do it because Tom makes half what he could, saves them 10M a year and sets an example.)

I like to think I understand the backroom workings. Given the chance I'd take that job in a minute. Maybe after I have a few years of finance experience I could get a contract gig. Idunno, I think if you don't come up through the scouting community, it's hard to convince teams you can provide insight. And scouting is a family game, "My dad's a coach/scout/GM, I played at XXX, I grew up around football" kinda thing.
