Alvin Lee wrote those lyrics about what he was seeing and hearing when he and the band were playing a lot in the U.S. -- all the goings-on surrounding the Vietnam War at the time. He was part of the 'make love, not war' movement. The opening verse refers to "dykes and fairies", not "god damned fairies".
Anyway, I've never heard any of Alvin's words be stricken or dubbed when the song is played on the radio today. But, yeah, I've heard the "fuck" scrubbed from Who the Fuck are You, way back when and sometimes still do.
