I agree he deserved an ass kicking if he was holding up a sign that said "will work for food" or "anything helps, god bless". But if he was just walking around looking for money for drugs or booze or whatever then it's pretty evident he doesn't want anyone's crappy leftovers and it's offensive to even offer it. If he's not asking for food then either make a decision to give him a buck or not without judgment, but to go back and give him a plate of your leftovers because you personally feel it's better than buying drugs or booze is belittling. And then to smash it in his face when he gets pissy? Well congratulations for harassing bums, hopefully you feel good about yourself.
