There is a homeless lady that sits outside the shop I used to work at. She could be anyone's grandma. Weird how we train our mind to almost be okay with a homeless man, but see this woman who is obviously not a prostitute just sitting there night after night, day after day.
I went up and talked to her. She told me her name, she told me about her life. I told her about mine. Next time I went to talk to her and I brought food, for both of us. I didn't just give her food and leave, I sat there and ate with her.
She never has asked people for things. But people offer her stuff all the time. She said she was sort of sleeping one night and some people left a half eaten pizza next to her.
It was kind of funny actually to hear her say that. I mean she is grateful, but if anyone is paying attention to her and her life and what she needs it is not difficult to find something she would like or could use.
We expect to just throw some food or money at someone to feel better about ourselves, when sometimes all someone wants is someone to talk to.
Now FQ said "Of course the person was panhandling" well the story didn't tell that in the beginning, and how were we to know that.
There is a guy that sits on the corner, people have offered him jobs and he tells them to go away. So you move on, don't waste time on someone if you can't help them.
But find someone who genuinely needs something, they are there.
