I bet it's more for the thrill of the steal than for the food itself. It's like trolling and getting under your annoying co-workers' skin everyday, only they don't know it's you. If you get a good snack in the process, even better. I kinda get it.
I haven't stolen anybody's food and nobody's stolen mine. But, I have had friends "drop by" and empty every bottle of alcohol in the house and eat all my Cap'n Crunch. I watched and let them do it though, so I don't think it qualifies as stealing.
