It's about time. I hope the bill becomes law and other states follow suit.
I saw that the bill passed the Alabama Senate, but I don't think it's passed the state House or been signed into law by Governor Ivey yet?
Anyway, I've never believed the government should be licensing personal relationships in the first place.
If the bill passes, couples in Alabama will still have to make it legal via affidavit filed with the court and pay the same amount of money. There would also be no change in how divorce and custody matters are legally handled.
BUT......under the proposed new law.......no official marriage ceremony would be required and it would eliminate the ability of religious court clerks to deny gay couples official marriage documents. That would be a good thing for those of us who support separation of church and state.
