The Republican senate failed to take up the Secure Elections Act, sponsored by Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and James Lankford (R-Okla.), aimed at securing election systems from cyberattacks. The senators have said they will reintroduce the legislation this legislative session. Good.
I hope this H.R.1 becomes law -- it also requires political donation sources to be made public, which would make 'dark money' a thing of the past and deter elected representatives from putting donors' and lobbyists' interests above those of the people they're sworn to serve. In addition, it does away with the electoral college so that the peoples' vote determines the President.
I think the Democrat-controlled House will pass H.R.1. But, I very seriously doubt the Republican-controlled Senate will consider and pass it because I don't think President Trump will support it and the Senate either forgot or doesn't care that it has a constitutional responsibility to serve the people (not the Executive or the donor class).
I really hope that McConnell and company shock the shit outta me and consider/vote in favor H.R.1.
