We found "Pan Searing" steaks a lot less smokey. (Got rid of my BBQ, have not replaced it yet)
And the induction fan in the microwave above the stove top helped suck in the pan searing smoke.
Thanks for the tip, Cars! I'm a horrible cook so there's always the chance that I'm going to fuck it up no matter what it is. I don't even like meat but I will cook it on occasion for others. Now I want to tell you about the ribs I once ate like a savage.
