Breast Feeding

I'm sure you're not trying to educate me on how to feed an infant. I breast fed both of my kids for the first year of their lives.

Actually I was. Your post sounded as if you were unaware of the needs of a nursing infant.

I managed to do it discretely 22 years ago, and pump enough milk to be able to go to work every day. It can be done, without a whole lot of effort.

Perhaps for you, but not for everyone. Some women begin to dry up when they start pumping during the day instead of nursing because the pump isn't nearly as efficient as a nursing baby is. Personally, it wouldn't have worked for me. I wasn't able to pump enough for a feeding and pumping was always very painful for me.

So you say you don't think trying to ween your son is related to why he is getting sick, but then you say nursing him saved him from being hospitalized when he got sick....I'm confused.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. He got pretty sick a couple of times and would not eat or drink, only nurse. The hospital staff said that if it were not for his nursing, he would have been hospitalized and put on an IV.

I never suggested letting a baby go hungry. And of course I've sat in a waiting room, plenty of times, with plenty of screaming babies. If you're talking about a waiting room for a pediatrician, I would fully expect to see mothers breastfeeding, as I have been one of those mothers.

Why would it be more acceptable to nurse a baby in a waiting room than elsewhere in public? Personally, I always chose to cover myself when I had to nurse my son in a public place, but more power to those women who do not feel the need to do so. Why should they be ashamed of feeding their baby? Why do people think that a nursing calf or foal is 'adorable', but a nursing infant is offensive? It's ridiculous.
