Lumpy, we didn't have too much 'chanting' or anything near the likes of this shit in Jesus Camp. I may have had it a bit more mild due to factors like location or something but there was no brainwashing whatsoever.
When I found I did not have to make confirmation (I found out I was baptized and confirmed at the same time because we were of the Eastern Right)and told my mom I didn't want to continue chatechism and stop going to church on Sunday she said it was OK by her and the church and school never pushed the issue.
My best friend growing up used to go to Catholic school and went to Catholic high school.
We used to compare what we learned and it wasn't until I told her we were going to the Museum of Natural History (in NYC in what I think was the 3rd grade) to see the dinosaur bones she had no idea they existed! Needless to say, as soon as we started going into the city by ourselves that was the first place I took her!
There were other aspects of education that she excelled in like the 3 "R's" but we eventually caught up with them there.
They were told all history before Christ was born was "the devil's work".
I haven't talked to her in nearly 30 years now and I wonder if she believed all that crap they spewed against evolution?
Maybe all the parochial schools should have the equivalent to catechism for world history and evolution?
