I saw that on the news twice, and still didn't catch why/what his involvement was. It was said he took the video.
From what I gather, William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. was a friend of the McMichaels who joined them in their pursuit of Arbery (in a separate vehicle) and filmed the chase and killing.
In the Glynn County police incident report on the shooting, Gregory McMichael told an officer that at one point Arbery “began running back the direction from which he came and `Roddie’ attempted to block him which was unsuccessful.” <-- If true, that makes Roddie more than a witness and more like an accomplice.
Under Georgia law, a person can be charged with felony murder for committing any felony that causes the death of someone else. It does not require intent to kill and carries an automatic life sentence.
I won't be surprised if prosecutors now have evidence that Roddie did try to block Arbery as Arbery was trying to run away from his pursuers and are charging Roddie with the most severe crime they feel they can justify in order to get him to tell the whole story/truth (and testify against the McMichaels), in exchange for a reduction in charges or some other plea deal.
