I think a lot of the people who are talking about defunding law enforcement are going about getting their message across in the wrong way. I don't think it means doing away with police. They need a better platform. I don't know anyone who thinks we can do without LEO's.
The town across the river from me does not have it's own police. They rely on the staties for services. Sometimes, it takes an hour for the staties to show. My town does have a police unit, and it still takes an hour for them to show.
I've read a few viewpoints on defunding, one view talked about delegating services. My issue with that is that is A) I don't know of any mental health counselor's that are prepared to fully restrain someone who is having a psychotic breakdown. B) how do we know who to call for our particular situation, and C) there's not enough money in the police budgets to provide protective gear for every delegated service, so taxes will go up, again.
