Why dont people have central heat and air up north? My aunt has a gas furnace, but no AC. She has a window AC.

A lot of the buildings at least here are really fucking old and have been retrofitted over the years. And A/C isn't quite the dire need in the north. Hot for us is when it scratches 90 like 3 days a year.
