I have a stash of Magnesium flares and about 40 phosphorus sparklers. Sometimes I like to mix them and make spark fountains, they go about 12 ft in the air and all I use a wet dry vac to force air through the tube. I make a cone that goes 4" to 1" and light it. I have to look into something that will give it color other than just white.

get some permanganate to mix with the magnesium, you will need a metal tube (best 8" of 2" cold rolled steel taped out by drill - leave an inch in tact) and a squib. very loud concussion mortar.
