A man accused of chasing his sister with a chain saw has been arrested for attempted murder.
Around 1:30 Saturday afternoon, police arrested 47-year-old Kelly J. Mellott of Redding. Reports show that Mellott was chasing his sister,45-year-old Julie Mountfort of Redding after having a verbal argument. During the argument, the suspect Mellott threatened his sister with a chain saw. Mellott forced his sister on to a bed and placed the running chain saw just inches from her face and indicated that he was going to hurt her. The victim was able to grab a metal cover to protect herself and escape uninjured to call police.
Officers booked Kelly J Mellott into the Shasta County jail for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and terrorist threats. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
