President Trump had the legal authority and constitutional power to simply remove Yovanovitch from her ambassador post in Ukraine; he's right about that.
I kinda doubt that Trump even knew who she was before Giuliani and Parnas started their smear campaign against her though.
In their efforts to divert focus away from Russia's 2016 election interference and point it towards Ukraine and the Bidens ahead of 2020, Parnas (during a phone meeting with other donors and Trump) told the President that Yovanovitch was bad-mouthing him.
That's when Trump made the "get rid of her", "take her out" comments and the smear campaign against her ramped up, culminating in her removal several months later for "safety/security concerns".
Yovanovitch was a diplomat with a good reputation under both Republican and Democratic administrations for over 30 years and knew that the Ukraine election interference conspiracy theory had been deemed bogus by U.S. and international intelligence agencies.
So, she was a liability that Giuliani and company needed removed. Mission accomplished...........but, now the circumstances are under a microscope.
Under oath in the House, Yovanovitch denied ever bad-mouthing Trump, and Parnas has since admitted that what he told Trump about Yovanovitch wasn't true.
