Congressional retirements are an early indicator of the political environment, and for the second consecutive election (2018 and 2020), more Republicans than Democrats are heading for the exit.
New York House Rep Pete King recently announced that he will not run for a fifth term in 2020.
That makes 20 Republican Representatives and 4 Republican Senators who are calling it quits in 2020 (vs. 6 Democrat Representatives and 1 Democrat Senator).
